Where did this Peter muse come from?! I thought I'd never get a muse more melancholy than my Remus and then this little rat burst onto the scene, and he's just a big ball of angst. Oy! But I do like him. ^.^

"What if I died?"
The others looked up and stared at Peter in silence until Remus spoke.
"What?"
"What if I died?" he repeated.
"Merlin, Wormtail, don't be a prat," Sirius said. "You're not going to die."
"Everyone dies," Remus murmured.
"You think too much," Sirius replied.
"So what if I died?" Peter asked again. He wouldn't let go.
James spoke up, his tone impatient. "We'd have to find another way to get into the Willow." The subject was closed.
Later, after the topic was forgotten, Remus looked Peter square in the face and said, "I'd miss you."
Peter smiled.
Title: Jealous
Rating: G
Pairing: Unrequited Peter/Remus, unrequited Remus/Sirius (TEH ANGST!)
Word Count: 200
Disclaimer: All characters belong to J.K. Rowling. I make no profit from this. Or anything else, actually.
Peter thinks James is jealous. He recognizes the signs because he's jealous, himself. But Peter knows he has a reason to be, and James doesn't. James has Lily, and they love each other. It's only natural for Sirius to find someone to spend time with when Evans steals his best mate away. But Peter wishes Sirius would find a girl or a whole new mate, instead of stealing his Remus.
Remus doesn't seem to mind being stolen, though. Peter can see his eyes light up every time Sirius asks him down to the pitch with him. Remus doesn't even like Quidditch that much... Peter wishes those amber eyes would light up that way for him. It's painful to see his kind, polite, smart wolf go stupid over such an absolute prat. One who doesn't even notice him. Not really. Not like Peter does.
But Peter knows Remus tries. "D'you want to come along, Wormtail?" he asked once when he saw the look on Peter's face. Sirius had discouraged it, though, and Remus had just gone along with him, leaving Peter to study alone. Remus had promised to help him with Cheering Charms... He really could have used one just then.
