DRABBLES: Remus gen; G

Title: Mine, As Well
Rating: G
Pairing: None. Just Remus and his Dad.
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: Written for Challenge #3 at [livejournal.com profile] lupin100

Remus stood at the window, silently watching snowflakes drift past for several minutes before moving to his father's chair, climbing into the Frenchman's lap, and finally speaking his mind.

"Mum's afraid." Of me was left unspoken.

"She is a Muggle," replied Jean Lupin in his half-faded accent. His tone made no excuses, only told the truth.

"But I'm seven."

"Je sais."

"And I'm hers."

"Mm. Mine, as well." His arm wrapped around his son's shoulder, pulling him closer.

Remus pressed his face into his father's shirt and smiled –- just a bit -– for the first time since the bite, last May.

Title: Curfew
Rating: G
Pairing: None. Remus; Marauders.
Word Count: 100
Author's Notes: In making this a 100-word drabble, I lost the bit where you're told that this takes place during the first couple weeks of their first year. I've just realized that's a little bit important, so I thought I should point it out.

"He's scared?" the Potter boy asked Black as they headed down the stairs, Pettigrew in tow.

Black's reply drifted back to Remus' ears. "Nah. He's got guts. He's just careful."

Remus curled in bed, his mind wandering back to Black's invitation. Come on, Lupin. Nobody ever got seriously hurt breaking a stupid rule like curfew. Remus had stood up to him, which earned him first a glare, then an appreciative barking laugh and a Maybe next time, then.

Older words came back to him. His mother's voice. No, Remus. You know the rule. You're not to go outside after dark.

Aw. "Mine, As Well" was so happy, and yet sad at the same time. I really like it. It's probably going to be in my thoughts for weeks now.

"Curfew" was also very good. It's very revealing of Remus's character, why he's the cautious one. In fact, it reveals a bit of all the marauders' personalities with so few words, even though Remus is the main character, and Peter doesn't even say anything at all.

Excellent, that's what I was going for with Mine, As Well. I imagine a LOT of things in Remus' life are happy and sad at the same time, and he has to sort of make the best of what he's got.

Any time I write about the Marauders, I try to be careful to include all four of them, and either give each one a line, or say something that indicates their personality. It annoys me when people omit one just because they don't like them. Naturally, it happens to Peter most often. But if I wasn't careful, James would be left out all the time. XD

'Mine Too' was very bitter-sweet, I thought. And it makes me even more curious as to how the bite happened. And Lupin - half-French? Interesting and cool.

I liked 'Curfew' too - it gives us an insight into Remus's early life which we don't see but like to speculate about.
