Oh! I forgot to post the correct answers to the Which Is Older? quiz/poll.
Putting them behind a cut, in case anyone missed the first post and wants to go back and play before seeing the answers...
.) The face lift is older than Joan Rivers. The first one was performed in 1901, more than thirty years before Joan Rivers was a twinkle in her daddy's eye. My parents and I missed this one. We didn't think this kind of cosmetic surgery was very new, but we thought it was newer than that.
.) The segway was introduced to the world in 2001, when Justin Bieber was aready a whopping seven years old. Fewer than half of you got this one right!
.) Kim Kardashian was born in 1980 and the EW answer key claims she's older than sunless tanning. However, Coppertone came out with the first sunless tanning product in 1960, so either they're wrong or they're talking about something more specific (or maybe entirely different) than what I thought they were talking about. Two thirds of you thought spray-tanning was older. I'm ... not sure whether to tell you you're right or not. XD
.) The first ATM was introduced in 1939. Donald Trump did not show up to use them until 1946. I had no idea ATMs had been around for that long! And neither did 80% of you!
.) Chicken nuggets appeared in the 1950s. Brad Pitt did not appear until the 1960s. I thought both were products of the early 60s and guessed Brad Pitt. Oops.
.) Only about 27% of you knew/guessed that Betty White was born five years before construction on Mount Rushmore began. I have to admit, I got this right on a technicality. I said Betty White but I thought Mount Rushmore probably took some ridiculously extended period of time to complete, and she was born the year before that happened or something.
.) Pinball came out in 1947, claims EW. Once again, I question their research because I really thought pinball machines got their start in the 30s. But, either way, they're still much older than Jim Carrey, who was born in 1962. ONE person got this wrong. We'll pretend she just misclicked. ♥
.) And, finally, pilates had been around for more than fifty years when Angelina Jolie was born in 1975. And this is another one that fewer than half of you got right. I'm not surprised. I only got it right because I reasoned if they were comparing a fairly new craze to someone in her thirties, the subject of said craze must be older than the average person would assume.
