So. I didn't do a recap last week because I thought Saturday was Friday and when I went to do it on Sunday instead, I discovered that I had lost the link to the place where I get my pictures. Fail! So I just said "Fuck it" and gave up. But I'm back now! Yay.
This week's challenge was the final one before Bryant Park. PRESSURE! The designers and their models go to the Getty Center and are told to find inspiration and make something. Very loose guidelines there. Which is good for them, since this is their last chance to really impress the judges and show who they are as designers.
The best moment of the whole show for me was when Tim did his walk-through and told Irina that hers was looking like roadkill. AWESOME.
Althea took her inspiration, literally, from the Getty Center. The building's architecture spoke to her. I'm not sure if she misinterpreted or what, but...

Carol Hannah was inspired by a piece of ...18th?... century French furniture.

Christopher ... had free run of the Getty Center ... and chose to base his look on ... pond scum on a fountain. No, really.

Gordana chose a Monet done in smoky pastel colors. (The woman really likes grey, doesn't she?)

I somehow missed actually seeing what inspired Irina's look, but I'm told it was a painting of two Rubenesque woman.

The judges seemed to like the front of Gordana's dress and ... that's about it. Personally, I also liked Carol Hannah's, but my opinion isn't the one that counts!
First, the judges tell Irina she's going to Bryant Park and she's sent off the runway. Nobody is surprised.
Next, they talk to Christopher. Despite -- or maybe because of -- his heartfelt defense of his piece (he pointed out that everyone else took their inspiration from gorgeous artistic things and he took his from a rock, which not many people would see the beauty of) poor Christopher is sent home. No Bryant Park for him. Alas.
Then they give Carol Hannah the thumbs up and she goes to wait with Irina.
They're down to Althea and Gordana; one will go to Bryant Park and one will go home. Despite the fact that Gordana produced the better piece this week, the judges feel that Althea has been consistently better through the rest of the competition. I disagree but, once again, their opinions are the ones that count here, so Gordana is the final one auf'd.
That means that we have an all girl final three! Irina, Carol Hannah and Althea. Since I always try to find the dark cloud's silver lining, here's the good thing I found about Christopher and Gordana being eliminated: I don't have to agonize over who to root for. I can only stand one of the final three. GO TEAM CAROL HANNAH!

Date: 2009-11-08 09:31 pm (UTC)But Althea... She doesn't seem to have a personality, to me, and I don't feel attatched to her. I love Gordana and I felt so bad she was sent home. But still, I am with you. TEAM CAROL HANNAH GO GO GO.

Date: 2009-11-09 03:49 am (UTC)If I were rich and famous, I would've happily worn Carol Hannah's dress to something. (Make that rich, famous, and skinny.)

Date: 2009-11-09 01:44 pm (UTC)But yeah, I think Carol Hannah wasn't lying when she said she makes clothes people want to wear. Out of all the designers, she's made most the stuff I can actually see people in. I think Gordana is sort of second with that. Which is in a way my whole problem with fashion -- sometimes, the stuff is waaaay too out there for me to sort of wrap my head around.
