Being from Northeast Philadelphia, about 10 minutes from Southampton and Roosevelt Blvd (the former site of Byberry), and a bit of a paranormal nut as well as having juvenile delinquent friends, I can tell you that YES, Byberry is fucking terrifying. It used to be a rite of passage for my high school (Central; we were supposed to be the smart kids) to, if you were really interested in the paranormal and wanted to prove your worth, to sneak into Byberry (obviously, before they closed it down) after dark.
Scariest experience of my life, swear to God. Even though it had been closed and cleaned, it still smelled like an outhouse, and there was Satanist drawings all over the place. You hear voices in there, banging and shrieking and singing, and the one tunnel (which was used to dispose of bodies) is so absolutely frightening, no one will touch it. You could only really get to the lower levels and part of the lobby, because the elevators were just gaping holes and the staircases were so decayed that they looked like they'd collapse any moment.

Believe me, they're not exaggerating.
